Rose Cottage Handmade

Handmade Dolls, Puppets and lovely things!

Busy, busy…

I’ve been working quite hard this past few weeks. Here’s a list of interesting things I’ve made:

Mannequin Doll – to be a pattern

A Mannequin Doll, it will be sold as a pattern, it’s about as proportionally correct as I could make it. With this pattern you can make many, many dolls.

Jemima - A 'Tilda-style' Doll
Tilda Style Doll, I really enjoyed making this pattern. It is similar to the traditional ‘Tilda’ doll but the head shape is more 3d and the feet too. I’ve made some really nice clothes and accessories for this doll too.

Barn Owl
Barn Owl, it took a lot of work and adjustments to make this owl, I love it! It still has to be edited some more because the body is too lean, but not bad for a first attempt.

Forest Deer Herd

Forest Deer, simple and lovely, they look great in a herd and are pose-able too.

I’m making patterns for felt trees too.

Done and Dusted… well at least one anyway!

I finished my first order for celebration bunting, should be shipped out today. Yay! I feel as though I’ve accomplished a lot this week. I still have a lot of designing to do, and guess what!? Some of the fabric I ordered has come! When I ship to my customer tomorrow I’ll pick it up then. Thanks Sharla! Sharla has a oh so wonderful etsy shop with all sorts of goodies in it.
Here’s a link to Sharla’s sooooper etsy shop.

To Do List

Figured I’d better make a list of everything I hope to complete this week.

leaf-stencil-red11. Finish and mail off bunting for customer.

leaf-stencil-red12. Start to design a cartoonish animal puppet with an old and seriously pilled dark green fleece blanket I have lying around.

leaf-stencil-red13. Now that September is here, I really need to get organized for the christmas season. I need to put together my new ideas for garlands, dolls and gingerbread men, and such like.

leaf-stencil-red14. Play patio tennis with my son, Jacob, and actually win!

leaf-stencil-red15. Start making time to relax and read some vintage children’s books that I used to LOVE as a child.

leaf-stencil-red16. And, design the measurements for some patio seating so I can be outside more.

leaf-stencil-red17. Last but not least, smile and laugh more, be thankful for everything I have.

Piece of Treasure I found Online

I completely missed out on my summer reading this year, now my youngest is headed back to school on Wednesday and I haven’t read a thing.
Today I was bookmarking some free books to read online when I have time and I came across “ENCYCLOPEDIA OF NEEDLEWORK BY THÉRÈSE DE DILLMONT”
A great vintage book and it’s illustrated and looks like it could be a very interesting read. It has patterns too!

Here are some images from it:

Keyring Dolls, almost finished

These are another cute creation of mine. When completed they display the words “I heart Barbados” … with a picture of a heart not the word, lol. They also have a ring attached to the yellow ribbon you see at the top, so you can add them to a bag or a keyring, etc. Yes, they’re in the shop too.

Blanket Stitch a Star Fish

Mmm, it seems I thought I could still embroidery…. easily. WRONG! I thought I was ok at it but it seems time takes away a lot of what you think you can do. I had forgotten a lot of the stitches I had learn a few years ago while Starfishmaking a ‘you have to use every stitch invented’ alphabet flower sampler. So I re-educated myself on… the supposedly simple blanket stitch. I put the tutorial links in my side bar for those who are interested in learning (or relearning) some stitches.

Anyway this is what I made, a starfish pincushion that I’ll probably dangle on a bag, it’s hand stitched, and I used only the blanket stitch to make it.

I bought a tiny wooden embroidery hoop today, so I’m all set to embroider my linen hankerchief soon.
